When you look at a red apple... what do you see? A juicy piece of fruit, a round home where worms like to sleep (shh), or medicine for a cold? The answer is... all three! Apples are my favorite fruit in the known universe, and I eat one almost every day. Now you get to learn why an apple a day keeps the doctors away (hint: it's a vitamin that rhymes with tree).

Food science isn't just for geeks... who like really long words like trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO for short). Learning about food science is for everyone who wants to be strong and smart forever. And guess what? Eating plants is a great way to live a long and healthy life. Bonus: you get to be a hero and save the world, too. Ready to rock and roll? Let's dive in!

Fall in Love with Plants

What are whole plant foods? They're things like beans that make us fart, intact whole grains that have fiber to make us poop, and green leafy vegetables that make our hearts and brains sing. Plants are positively powerful, and we've been thriving on these beauties since the beginning of human time. What are your favorite whole plant foods? And sorry, ketchup (from tomatoes) and french fries (from potatoes) don't count!

"If your plan is for one year, plant rice. If your plan is for ten years, plant trees. If your plan is for a hundred years, educate children."

- Confucius, Chinese Philosopher (died 479 BCE)

Become Besties with Broccoli

Did you know that kids have more taste buds than grown-ups? That's why foods like broccoli and Brussels sprouts pack a punch of flavor and make your face squinch up like raisins. Find out more about food science and why cruciferous vegetables like kale (crew-sifer... what?) are so nutritious for you. Learn more about why your body can be even stronger and your brain can be even smarter... when you become besties with beans, greens, berries, and broccoli (and a bunch of other food heroes).
