Love + Relationships
"Love is the answer and you know that, for sure."
- John Lennon, English Songwriter + Musician (died 1980)
We've met Dr Ornish who encourages a four-pillar approach to a happy and healthy life: eat well, move more, stress less, and love more. Studies have shown that people in healthy and loving partnerships - relationships of all kinds, not just romantic ones - report more satisfaction in life. Conversely, being in toxic, unhealthy relationships can lead to a shorter lifespan. Especially when changing a lifetime of unhealthy habits, we need to find connections in the plant-powered community. Having a loving partner and adventurous kids, who are willing to try our new lentil soup recipe, are icing on the plant-based cake. Love is the answer, indeed.

Got People?
From less colds to a longer lifespan, love and relationships can create health and wellbeing. A healthy and positive connection to others is not only pleasurable, it has a significant physiological impact on our body and brain. Conversely, negative relationships can create chaos and decreased wellbeing. Sounds obvious, right? This isn't necessarily about lust, sex, or even marriage. It's about connecting to another person or group of people whom we love, and who love us right back.
"If you want to be more alive, love is the truest health."
- Rumi, Persian Poet + Theologian (died 1273)
Health + Happiness
According to Harvard Medical School, "people who describe themselves as happy tend to have fewer health problems, a lower risk of depression, and longer lives." Smiling also increases feelings of contentment. It's important (and wise) to know that happiness is ultimately a daily choice. Outside stuff is just that. Stuff. Joy is within.
